The Green Scholarship Program is an educational division of the CDLC and is similarly, set up as a civil association (AC) non-profit in Mexico, called the Programa de Becas Foundation. This foundation was intended to reflect the value that hard-working parents placed on education and instilled in their children. Their legacy will be defined by the academic success and achievement of well deserving students in Los Cabos who have been accepted into the program.

The goal is to enhance the economic prospects of the Los Cabos region for not only the scholars but for the residents in the community. Each year the GSP selects highly motivated students who would be unable to pursue their education without financial assistance. In almost every case these students are first generation high school graduates who have parents that did not complete elementary school. Every spring, scholars from the ten area high schools are interviewed, evaluated, and selected to receive a scholarship by experienced and highly qualified educators on the GSP board of directors.

GSP scholarships are awarded to high school seniors based on need, character, personal merit, commitment, and persistence. The goal is for these scholars to obtain a university degree and become gainfully employed as a bilingual resident in the Los Cabos community. Their majors range from accounting to architecture, business administration, criminology, information technology, interior design, international commerce, gastronomy, graphic design, languages, law, medicine, nutrition, psychology, teaching, tourism, marine biology, et al.

Once awarded the GSP pays for 100% of the college tuition of its recipients. The scholarship pays for tuition, books, social skill seminars, transportation, English classes, and for a select few, a housing allowance. Each student is required to attend weekly English classes and participate in monthly life skill’s seminars. There is a GSP office where students’ records and computers are maintained with support staff to assist a student’s academic and emotional needs.

PREPARATION TO BE AGENTS OF CHANGE IN THE COMMUNITY

As part of the requirements to get a GSP scholarship, our students are expected to complete a minimum amount of hours of volunteering activities in the community. This volunteering activity helps us achieve our vision to develop good character in our students. Student volunteering is a fantastic experience and we truly highlight how important student volunteering is, not only for the individual volunteering but for the community; it marks a positive impact in the student life.

COMPLEMENTARY SERVICES FOR OUR STUDENTS

As part of our support for our students, we offer:

AN EMOTIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM as a complement to their development:

The program offers counseling support services to the GSP students who are struggling with a variety of emotional and behavioral problems and need additional psychological assistance. The ultimate goal is to help each student develop the necessary skills to enable them to maximize their potential.

The program offers therapeutic sessions in a safe environment that inspires academic success and personal growth. The program provides sessions of individual or group therapy (depending on the need).
